ETS completed construction of a water impoundment and drainage pump station for an 8,000-acre South Florida Water Management District dispersed water management project. ETS constructed more than 16 miles of levee to create the impoundment, while the pump station delivers stormwater from the C-41A canal into the aboveground impoundment to meet water quality treatment goals.
High-Capacity Pump Station
A maximum flow rate of 242,000 gallons per minute was required. The pump station included six 42-inch-diameter vertical axial-flow pumps, each driven by a 200-horsepower electric motor and capable of approximately 42,000 gallons per minute.
Dynamic Controls and Structural Support
The pumps are dynamically controlled by the water level in the C-41A canal. The project included six steel pump and motor mounting frames assembled into a complete platform onsite. A 135-foot-long, 30-foot-deep steel sheet-pile wall supported the pumps over the water, with a concrete slab at the bottom of the pump sump to prevent undermining.
Project Dedication
The pump station and impoundment were dedicated in a ceremony attended by Florida state government officials, landowners, and District employees.
